On Friday, Tesla, Inc. (TSLA.US) rose 5% to $408.40. According to reports, Tesla, Inc. is planning to launch a new, larger Model Y model called Model Y L in India as early as next week. Model Y L will be the first new product Tesla, Inc. has launched in the Indian market since entering it. Model Y L is a long-wheelbase six-seater version of the Model Y, which was first introduced by Tesla, Inc. in the Chinese market. It features a more spacious third row of seats, further enhancing its practicality for family users.
It is reported that the Indian electric vehicle market is on the brink of an explosion. In March 2026, monthly registrations of electric passenger cars increased by 49% year-on-year to 19,711 units, reaching a historical high. Throughout the fiscal year 2026, cumulative registrations of electric passenger cars reached 196,754 units, an 82% increase compared to the previous fiscal year; electric two-wheelers sold 1.3 million units throughout the year. On the policy front, the Indian government plans to build 70,000 charging stations nationwide and will continue to maintain a super-low 5% Goods and Services Tax rate on electric vehicles.
