Shatter the "delay panic"! Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) is rumored to unveil its first foldable iPhone as scheduled in September, significantly narrowing the 5% intraday decline.
According to informed sources, Apple's (AAPL.US) first foldable phone is still expected to make an appearance during the regular iPhone release cycle later this year, shattering concerns about major manufacturing obstacles.
According to informed sources, Apple Inc.'s first foldable phone is still expected to debut later this year within the regular iPhone release cycle, dispelling concerns about major manufacturing obstacles. These sources, who requested anonymity as the plans have not been publicly announced, stated that Apple Inc. plans to release this foldable model in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Apple Inc.'s iPhones typically go on sale within a week after their new product launch.
A previous report had sparked concerns in the market about delays, stating that Apple Inc. was facing challenges in the phone engineering testing phase that could lead to production and shipping schedule delays. As a result, Apple Inc.'s stock price fell 5.1% on Tuesday.
The sources mentioned that while the complexity of the new display screen and materials might limit supply in the initial weeks, Apple Inc.'s current plan is to have the device go on sale simultaneously or slightly after the non-foldable new models. Subsequently, Apple Inc.'s stock price narrowed its decline, falling about 2.1% on Tuesday to $253.50.
However, with six months left until the official release and production not yet started, the timetable is not final. The Apple Inc. spokesperson in Cupertino, California, declined to comment.
This device is a significant step for Apple Inc., aiming to expand its iPhone product line through new design, higher-priced models, and enhanced features. Apple Inc. is seeking to better compete with Samsung Electronics Co. and Chinese smartphone manufacturers, who have been offering foldable phones for several years.
For Apple Inc., the foldable iPhone is the second step in a three-year plan to reshape the flagship device's appearance and feel. Last year, Apple Inc. introduced the heavily redesigned Pro and Pro Max models, and a thinner version called the iPhone Air. Apple Inc. is also developing a standalone version of the iPhone revamp, planned for release in 2027 to commemorate the product's twentieth anniversary.
The iPhone roadmap has always been a top priority for Apple Inc.'s management team (including hardware chief John Ternus). Ternus is said to be the top candidate to eventually succeed CEO Tim Cook.
While this foldable iPhone is similar to competitors, it has several key selling points. Apple Inc. engineers believe they have solved issues with screen quality and overall durability, two major flaws that have plagued such phones for a long time, including making the crease on the screen less noticeable when unfolded.
This iPhone will offer horizontal widescreen display when unfolded, making it more effective for watching videos and playing games compared to the narrower foldable phones currently on the market. Apple Inc. plans to update its iOS operating system to make iPhone apps display more like iPad software on the new device.
At the same time, the product's price is expected to exceed $2,000. While this may deter some consumers from purchasing, it will raise Apple Inc.'s average selling price and contribute to the company's revenue growth.
Meanwhile, Apple Inc. is adjusting the annual release rhythm of the iPhone. It is understood that their next entry-level model will be delayed until spring 2027. Apple Inc. also plans to release a new iPhone Air and a budget-friendly iPhone 18e at that time. Apple Inc. released the iPhone 17e last month.
