Trump describes the latest Iranian ceasefire proposal as "still not good enough," reiterating that he is prepared to take military action.
US President Trump has stated that the latest ceasefire proposal presented by Iran is "still not good enough" and reiterated that if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened before the deadline, the US will launch a massive attack on Iran's critical infrastructure.
On Monday, US President Trump said that the latest ceasefire proposal from Iran is "still not good enough" and reiterated that if Iran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz before the deadline, the US will launch a large-scale attack on Iran's critical infrastructure.
During a White House event on the South Lawn, Trump told the media that Iran's proposal "is a significant step forward, but not enough," and said that both sides are still negotiating, with the "final result still pending observation." However, he later further reinforced his tough stance at a White House press conference, stating that if an agreement cannot be reached, the US is prepared to take military action.
"If there is no agreement, we have a plan," Trump said. "By tomorrow night, Iran's bridges and power facilities will be destroyed and cannot be used again."
This statement comes at a crucial deadline set by the US, demanding that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday evening, or face a strike. The strait is one of the most important energy transportation routes in the world and has been mostly closed since the conflict erupted on February 28.
Meanwhile, Iran has submitted a 10-point response plan through intermediaries in Pakistan to the US. According to Iranian state media, the plan includes agreements to secure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, post-war reconstruction arrangements, and lifting of sanctions. However, Tehran has explicitly rejected a temporary ceasefire, emphasizing the need for the "permanent end" of the war.
Furthermore, the Iranian parliament recently passed a bill proposing to charge toll fees for ships passing through the strait, further adding to the uncertainty in the energy market.
When asked about accepting Iran's proposal to continue charging toll fees as a condition for a ceasefire, Trump responded, "Why not let us charge?" and stated that the US has the advantage in the conflict.
It is worth noting that a previously discussed 45-day temporary ceasefire proposal did not receive Trump's support. White House officials stated that the plan is just one of many options, and the president has not yet approved it. Trump himself emphasized, "The only person who can decide on a ceasefire is me."
