Alphabet Inc. Class C (GOOGL.US) Gemini secretly started Mac desktop testing, the three major AI giants facing direct competition in the Apple Inc. ecosystem.

Alphabet Inc. Class C (GOOGL.US) is stepping up efforts to develop a dedicated Gemini AI application for Apple Inc.'s (AAPL.US) Mac computer series, aiming to strengthen competition with OpenAI and Anthropic.
Alphabet Inc. Class C, a subsidiary of Alphabet, began privately sharing early versions of the application with members participating in the consumer Beta testing program this week. This allows Alphabet Inc. Class C to receive feedback from non-employee users about the upcoming software, who can also help the company discover any bugs before the public release.
The company informed testers, "This is an early version of the Mac Gemini application for you to provide feedback on, containing only core functions of the other clients, not all features," indicating that the current version does not include all features that will be available upon final release.
This move is part of AI companies' competition to reach as many audiences as possible with their chatbots. OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude have already launched Mac versions of their applications.
An Alphabet Inc. Class C spokesperson did not disclose the time when the application will be officially released to end users. However, the start of external testing suggests that the company is likely to release the application in the near future. Information about the upcoming application, codenamed "Janus," was shared by application researcher M1Astra.
Alphabet Inc. Class C is asking testers to try out features such as generating images, videos, music, tables and charts, as well as mathematical and information analysis. The application can also search for web information and review historical conversations. It provides personalized features and can analyze uploaded multimedia documents.
Currently, Apple Inc. computer users who want to access Gemini need to do so through the web interface. The dedicated Mac application will allow users to access it more quickly in their workflow and simplify the process of uploading documents, which is a key task of the Siasun Robot&Automation artificial intelligence chatbot.
In preparation for the upcoming Mac application, Alphabet Inc. Class C is testing a feature called "Desktop Intelligence." Similar to Mac AI software like Claude Cowork, this will allow Gemini to access other Mac programs (such as Calendar) to send data to Gemini. This will ultimately allow the software to provide more personalized details when processing queries.
A message in the application code states, "Enabling 'Desktop Intelligence' for the application means you are allowing Gemini to view what you see (such as screen context) and extract content directly from these applications, used only to improve and personalize your experience while using Gemini."
In response to the era of artificial intelligence, Alphabet Inc. Class C has sought to streamline its product development by placing both Android software and hardware business under the responsibility of Rick Osterloh.
The current version of the Mac application for testing looks similar to the existing iPhone and iPad versions. Meanwhile, Apple Inc. is developing its own chatbot - codenamed "Campo" - as part of its redesigned Siri digital assistant. This software is expected to be released later this year with the iOS 27 and macOS 27 operating systems, and will rely on Alphabet Inc. Class C's models to assist in driving its AI capabilities.
