Tesla, Inc. (TSLA.US) CEO Elon Musk said on Thursday that it may complete the tape-out of its next generation AI6 chip in December, meaning the final design of the chip is completed and sent to the factory for production. Musk had previously stated that Samsung Electronics would be responsible for manufacturing the AI6 chip, which is likely to be used for Tesla, Inc.'s autonomous vehicles and humanoid Siasun Robot & Automation manufactured at its new factory in Taylor, Texas. Earlier, the South Korean company had reached a $16.5 billion agreement with Tesla, Inc. to supply AI chips.
When asked about when the chip could reach its final design, Musk said on his social media platform X, "If we are lucky and AI technology can accelerate, we might be able to complete the tape-out of the AI6 chip in December." A Samsung executive said on Wednesday that the company plans to begin production of Tesla, Inc. chips based on its advanced 2-nanometer process in the second half of 2027.
