In the fourth quarter of 2025, Hong Kong's overall GDP increased by 3.8% compared to the same period last year.
According to preliminary statistical data, Hong Kong's overall Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased by 3.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the increase in the third quarter was 3.7%.
On March 19, the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government released the preliminary figures of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the fourth quarter of 2025 and for the whole year of 2025, calculated in constant prices by economic activity classification. According to the preliminary statistics, the overall GDP of Hong Kong in the fourth quarter of 2025 increased by 3.8% compared to the same period last year, while the growth in the third quarter was 3.7%. Comparing the whole year of 2025 with 2024, the GDP increased by 3.5%.
Analyzing by service industry composition and comparing with the same period last year, the value added by all service activities combined increased by 3.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025, while the growth in the third quarter was 3.1%. Comparing the whole year of 2025 with 2024, the value added by all service industries combined increased by 3.2%.
The value added in the sectors of import-export trade, wholesale, and retail increased by 7.9% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the growth in the third quarter was 5.2%. The total value added in this industry increased by 6.0% for the whole year of 2025.
The value added in the accommodation and food services sector increased by 1.5% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while it decreased by 0.9% in the third quarter. The total value added in this industry decreased by 0.5% for the whole year of 2025.
The value added in the transportation, warehousing, postal, and courier services sector increased by 4.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the growth in the third quarter was 2.2%. The total value added in this industry increased by 3.7% for the whole year of 2025.
The value added in the information and communication sector increased by 1.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the growth in the third quarter was 0.6%. The total value added in this industry increased by 0.9% for the whole year of 2025.
The value added in the finance and insurance sector increased by 4.9% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the growth in the third quarter was 5.4%. The total value added in this industry increased by 4.8% for the whole year of 2025.
The value added in the real estate, professional, and business services sector recorded a real increase of 0.6% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, with the value added in the third quarter remaining largely unchanged. The total value added in this industry decreased by 0.2% for the whole year of 2025.
The value added in the public administration, social, and personal services sector increased by 1.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the growth in the third quarter was 2.1%. The total value added in this industry increased by 2.1% for the whole year of 2025.
For industries other than service industries, the value added in local manufacturing increased by 5.7% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the growth in the third quarter was 5.3%. The total value added in this industry increased by 3.2% for the whole year of 2025.
The value added in the electricity, gas, water supply, and waste management sector decreased by 0.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, while the decrease in the third quarter was 1.7%. The total value added in this industry decreased by 1.2% for the whole year of 2025.
The value added in the construction sector, after a real decrease of 8.7% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, decreased by 6.4% in the fourth quarter. The total value added in this industry decreased by 7.8% for the whole year of 2025.
