Three months after the Galaxy Z TriFold foldable smartphone was launched, Samsung Electronics is gradually stopping its sales.
After about three months on the market, Samsung Electronics is gradually ceasing sales of the Galaxy Z TriFold foldable smartphone. This indicates that the $2899 device was more of a technological showcase platform from the beginning, rather than a cornerstone of the company's mobile product line. A company spokesperson stated that Samsung Electronics will first stop sales in the domestic market of South Korea, followed by halting operations in the US after clearing remaining inventory. This move was expected in the market, as earlier this month, the Samsung website stopped teasing future restocking information for this advanced foldable screen phone (featuring a dual hinge design that transforms into a 10-inch tablet when unfolded). The website now only shows that the TriFold is "sold out". Reportedly, some buyers have recently found stock at Samsung experience stores in Frisco, Texas, and Queens, New York, indicating that there are still some products available for purchase. Samsung launched the device at the end of last year to showcase its engineering excellence. However, its high price quickly limited it to a select group of affluent early users. The device was first released in South Korea on December 12th for 3.59 million Korean won, followed by the US market in January this year. Samsung heavily promoted the device's multitasking capabilities on its large screen, but it also had some shortcomings. TriFold could only be purchased directly through the Samsung website, as mobile carriers and retailers never offered the product to consumers, suggesting that TriFold's fate was doomed to be short-lived. Won-Joon Choi, Chief Operating Officer of Samsung's mobile experience business, stated in an interview last month that due to the complex manufacturing process of TriFold, the company has not decided whether to launch future models. However, some core advantages of the device, such as the wide screen ratio suitable for media consumption, may be applied to Samsung's lower-priced foldable screen phones in the future. Meanwhile, Samsung has begun rolling out the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which features a new privacy screen and a range of new AI features.
