In terms of news, the box office of the Spring Festival movie season came to a close, with a double-digit year-on-year decline in the total box office performance of the 2026 Spring Festival movies. According to Maoyan Research Institute's data insight on the 2026 Spring Festival movies released on February 24, the total box office for the 2026 Spring Festival movies was 5.752 billion, a 39.5% year-on-year decrease. The number of viewers was 120 million, a 35.8% year-on-year decrease. Ticket prices were down 5.9% year-on-year, reaching a recent low, with a large decline in third- and fourth-tier cities. Guosen released a research report stating that in the short term, from the perspective of screening, there is a lack of top IP films and blockbuster films in the 2026 lineup, putting short-term pressure on the supply side. Additionally, companies in the film and television industry have high operating leverage, and a decrease in revenue could have a significant impact on profit margins. In the medium to long term, breakthroughs in AI video technology at home and abroad are expected to drive improvements in the supply of AI animation, shorts, TV series, and movies.
