According to the official account of China Railway, during the Chinese New Year holiday (from the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month to the 7th day of the first lunar month), the railway department carefully organized passenger transport and service guarantee, coordinated the transportation of key and festive goods to ensure supply, and achieved an increase in both quantity and quality of passenger and freight transportation. The national railway system sent a total of 1.21 billion passengers and 85.38 million tons of goods, representing a growth of 11.5% and 0.5% respectively compared to the same period last year, providing strong support for the safe, orderly, warm travel of the masses and the stable operation of the holiday economy.
Firstly, the number of passengers sent showed strong growth. From February 15th (the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month) to February 23rd (the 7th day of the first lunar month), various types of passenger flows, including visits, work, and tourism, were intertwined, maintaining a high level of passenger flow. The national railway system sent a total of 1.21 billion passengers, with an average of 13.41 million passengers per day, an increase of 11.5% compared to the same period last year. On February 23rd (the 7th day of the first lunar month), a record high of 18.733 million passengers were sent, with an average of 12,380 passenger trains running per day. Temporary passenger trains were added in popular directions and sections, with a maximum of 2,314 trains added in a single day. The scale of regular passenger trains was maintained, the quality of operation was improved, and the accessibility and affordability of railways were further enhanced.
Secondly, the travel experience was improved. More precise ticket sales strategies were implemented, ticket quotas were dynamically adjusted to meet the needs of long-distance and short-distance passengers, and services such as free ticket refunds for wrongly purchased tickets and telephone bookings for elderly passengers were provided. Various functions such as waiting list ticket purchases, online seat selection, and sales reminders were effectively used, with a success rate of over 70% for waiting list ticket purchases. Discounts on ticket prices for non-popular direction trains were increased, with the lowest discount reaching up to 80% to provide more benefits to passengers. Passenger boarding and alighting were organized effectively, with additional security check channels added dynamically to ensure orderly passenger entry and exit. Special work trains were operated in areas with a concentration of migrant workers to ensure smooth return to work. Services such as snow equipment, light baggage, quiet carriages, pet and car transport operated efficiently to ensure basic needs such as water, heating, and dining for passengers, providing full assistance to key passengers such as the elderly, disabled, and pregnant women. Integration with subways, buses, and taxis was strengthened, and colorful cultural activities such as "Sending Blessings to Thousands of Families", "Train Spring Festival Gala", and "My Railway Scenery Exhibition" were held at key stations to further enhance the travel experience for passengers.
Thirdly, railway and travel integration effectively drove holiday tourism economy and service consumption. To meet the travel demand during the Spring Festival, close cooperation with local tourism departments was established to operate various themed tourist trains such as "Jinlu Times Express", "Hospitality Shandong, Qilu No.1", and "Panda Special Train", connecting local food, scenery, and cultural attractions along the route to enrich holiday tourism products, help expand domestic demand, boost consumption, and promote the development of tourism, winter sports, and aging population economy.
Fourthly, railway logistics were smooth and efficient. During the Spring Festival holiday, the national railway system sent a total of 85.38 million tons of goods, with an average of 157,000 cars loaded per day, representing an increase of 0.5% and 1.8% respectively compared to the same period last year. The main freight transportation channels such as Daqin, Wari, Haoji, and Lanxin were fully utilized to ensure the transportation of key national livelihood goods such as food, spring planting materials, and holiday supplies, and the coal stock level for power plants along the national railway remained relatively high. Close coordination with key enterprise production and operation plans during the holiday period to ensure smooth logistics of raw materials and finished products, with the China-Europe freight trains and Western Land-Sea New Channel trains operating continuously during the holiday period. This effectively ensured the stability and smooth operation of the international industrial and supply chain.
