Tracking of Hong Kong Stock Market Concept | North America, Canada, and Mexico Football World Cup kicks off in June, focusing on four investment themes (with concept stocks attached)
The football World Cup of the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026 will kick off in June. Sales and production of World Cup-related sports equipment such as fan apparel have entered the "sprint period".
According to CCTV news, the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will kick off in June. Starting from May 2025, World Cup orders have been coming in continuously at the Yiwu market. Currently, sales and production of World Cup-related sports goods such as fan clothing have entered the "sprint period." The World Cup's consumption boom has made World Cup-related products in the Yiwu market continue to sell well. According to Yiwu Customs statistics, in 2025, Yiwu's exports of sports goods and equipment reached 11.65 billion yuan, an increase of 20.3% year on year, with the main export destinations being the United States, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia.
With more than 4 months until the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off, the whistle for the game has not been blown yet, but in Yiwu International Trade City, related sports goods have already "advanced." Luo Tianle, the head of Zhejiang Jule Sports Technology Co., Ltd., said, "We have just launched five or six dozen World Cup-related products, including plush toys, daily necessities, and commemorative souvenirs. Just a week after being shelved, we received orders exceeding one million yuan."
The busiest stage of the World Cup cycle has now arrived. According to Chen Xianchun, the person in charge of Yiwu Jinzun Trophy and Medal, the factory is speeding up production and plans to deliver all orders before the Lunar New Year. He said, "Considering the time for air transport during Spring Festival, if we deliver the goods after the Lunar New Year, it will be two months later. Therefore, we are rushing the goods now, and in these days, some customers have chosen to expedite the delivery using air transport."
In recent years, every major event like the Olympics, World Cup, European Cup, and Copa America, Yiwu, as the world's largest small commodity distribution center, has always been able to respond quickly to global procurement needs and benefit from sporting events. It is estimated that during the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Yiwu exported millions of fan wigs and flags; during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the "Vuvuzela" made by Yiwu became popular; during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, from flags of the 32 teams to footballs, jerseys, scarves, decorative cup figurines, and cushions, Yiwu's manufacturing accounted for almost 70% of the entire World Cup peripheral product market share.
Analysts generally believe that during the World Cup, the passion for sports is aroused, and sports equipment related to football will enter a peak season, leading to a direct benefit for related companies' performance. According to public statistics, in 2018 Russia World Cup had a total of 3.572 billion viewers, accounting for about 47% of the total global population. Among them, China had the largest number of viewers, with 660 million people watching the Russia World Cup. In terms of commercial value, the World Cup's commercial value exceeds 30 billion US dollars, far surpassing other sporting events.
As one of the most prominent global events, the commercial value of the World Cup is enormous, and it has a strong driving effect. In addition to sports itself, including sponsorship, broadcasting, stadium construction, it will also drive consumption economic activities such as gambling, derivatives, cultural and sports activities, clothing, and viewing parties, with a strong "thematic investment" attribute. CITIC SEC suggests focusing on four investment themes: sports lottery sales and operators, sports venue facilities and equipment suppliers, electronic screen providers, and leisure food and beverage providers.
