Recently, the first national brain-controlled acupuncture integration neural rehabilitation equipment platform "Shen Gong-Hua Tuo" landed in Tianjin.
According to the official WeChat public account of the Brain-Computer Interaction and Man-Machine Fusion Haihe Laboratory on February 4th, recently, the first national brain-controlled acupuncture and neural rehabilitation equipment platform "Shen Gong-Hua Tuo" jointly developed by the Brain-Computer Interaction and Man-Machine Fusion Haihe Laboratory led by Zhou Peng, the Wisdom Traditional Chinese Medicine Team, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine First Affiliated Hospital, Tianjin Binhai New Area Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tianzhong Yimai Company and other advantageous units has been launched in Tianjin. This equipment is aimed at patients with neurological disorders such as stroke paralysis, and clinical trials are underway at several top-tier hospitals, including the "National Acupuncture Clinical Research Center". Based on the theory of neuroplasticity, the team has innovatively developed the fusion technology of "brain-machine interface + intelligent wearable acupuncture", forming a new technology and equipment platform of "Chinese Medicine Brain-Machine Interface" with a clear physiological mechanism of "spirit-qi-blood-form" and significant clinical efficacy that is replicable and promotable. The related research has been supported by various preliminary projects, such as Tianjin Municipal Major Science and Technology Projects, Key Open Projects of the National Acupuncture Clinical Research Center, and the National Manned Spaceflight Experiment Project. "Shen Gong-Hua Tuo" targets key challenges in traditional acupuncture such as insufficient active participation of the patient's brain and lack of real-time quantitative evaluation technology for "acquiring qi through acupuncture", and has pioneered the creation of three core technologies: "active acupuncture", "quantitative acupuncture", and "fusion acupuncture". First, by combining the advantages of BCI's active paradigm, the team has constructed the technology of "active acupuncture" with enhanced stimulation targets fusion controlled by the brain-intention-qi mechanism, enhancing the active participation of the nerves in acupuncture stimulation throughout the rehabilitation process. Second, through the combination of cortical electroencephalography and near-infrared coupling characteristics, the team has achieved quantitative evaluation of the effect of "acquiring qi through acupuncture" during stimulation, forming the technology of "quantitative acupuncture" to evaluate and optimize acupuncture stimulation online. Third, by accurate detection of the active timing in the sensory and motor brain regions, the team has constructed a sensory-motor coupling rehabilitation system with feedback from the nerve control of the qi-blood integration, forming the technology of "fusion acupuncture" to quantify the capture of temporal nodes of "boosting qi and controlling blood flow". Through deep integration of Chinese and Western rehabilitation theories, the team has developed a new Chinese Medicine Brain-Machine technology that can be widely applied in clinical practice. The research and development team has conducted years of research in the field of modernization of appropriate traditional Chinese Medicine techniques and fusion equipment development with cutting-edge technologies such as Brain-Machine Interfaces. In the early stages, the joint development team of Tianjin University and Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine developed the "Portable Transcutaneous Acupoint Electrical Stimulation Device (Space Acupuncture)" for experiments on multiple Shenzhou series manned spacecraft to protect the health of astronauts, making them pioneers in the space application of intelligent acupuncture equipment in the field of traditional Chinese Medicine. In the future, the team will continue to focus on the innovative path of integration of Chinese Medicine and Brain-Machine, and develop a series of clinical equipment such as "Brain-Controlled Acupuncture" and "Brain-Controlled Massage" in the "Shen Gong-Hua Tuo" Chinese Medicine Brain-Machine series, leading and promoting the new productive forces of "Intelligent Chinese Medicine".
