The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced the results of the residential mortgage survey for December 2025.
On January 30th, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority released the results of the residential mortgage survey for December 2025. The number of new mortgage loan applications in December decreased by 5.1% compared to November, totaling 7612 cases. The amount of new mortgage loans approved in December increased by 7.1% compared to November, totaling 31.2 billion Hong Kong dollars. Among these, loans approved for first-hand property transactions increased by 8.2% to 11.7 billion Hong Kong dollars, while loans approved for second-hand property transactions increased by 7.6% to 16.8 billion Hong Kong dollars. On the other hand, loans approved for refinancing decreased by 0.6% to 2.7 billion Hong Kong dollars. The amount of new drawdown mortgage loans in December increased by 1.7% compared to November, totaling 20 billion Hong Kong dollars. The proportion of new mortgage loans priced with Hong Kong Interbank Offered Rate as reference decreased from 90.7% in November to 89.8% in December. Meanwhile, the proportion of new mortgage loans priced with the most favorable interest rate increased from 1.1% in November to 1.3% in December. The total outstanding mortgage loan amount in December increased by 0.2% compared to the previous month, totaling 1.9175 trillion Hong Kong dollars. The delinquency ratio for mortgage loans remained low at 0.14%, while the ratio of restructured loans remained close to 0%.
