Hong Kong Monetary Authority: The total transaction amount of stored value payment tools in the third quarter of 2025 was HK$268.9 billion, a decrease of 5.9% compared to the previous quarter.

On December 19, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority released statistical data on the stored value payment tool plan issued by the licensed holders of stored value payment tools for the third quarter of 2025. According to the quarterly statistics, by the end of the third quarter of 2025, the total number of active stored value payment tool accounts was 83.4 million, an increase of 0.8% from the previous quarter. In the third quarter of 2025, the total transaction volume of stored value payment tools was approximately 2.1 billion transactions, an increase of 0.5% from the previous quarter, while the total transaction amount was HK$268.9 billion, a decrease of 5.9% from the previous quarter.
Of the total transaction amount, HK$45.2 billion was for point of sale consumption, HK$30.6 billion for online consumption, HK$16.5 billion for person-to-person transfers, HK$65.4 billion for withdrawals, and HK$111.2 billion for top-ups. The total stored value amount and tool deposit at the end of the third quarter of 2025 was HK$20.7 billion, an increase of 1.7% from the previous quarter.
Compared to the end of the third quarter of 2024, the total number of active stored value payment tool accounts increased by 7.7% at the end of the third quarter of 2025, while the total stored value amount and tool deposit increased by 11.8%. The total transaction volume and total transaction amount in the third quarter of 2025 increased by 3.8% and 13.4% respectively compared to the same period in 2024.
