Samsung maintains its market leadership with an 8% year-on-year increase, reaching 11 million units in shipments, with the Galaxy A06 and A16 models accounting for over 60%, highlighting the key role of affordable models in driving growth. Motorola ranked third, with shipments declining by 10% to 5.1 million units. Honor and Transsion ranked fourth and fifth respectively, but with divergent trends: Honor saw a significant 70% growth, with record shipments of 2.9 million units; while Transsion declined by 23% to reach 2.4 million units in shipments.
Canalys (now part of Omdia) Senior Analyst Miguel Prez said, "Thanks to its reliable brand image and precise positioning for the low-end Galaxy A series, Samsung has regained growth. Honor's performance is mainly driven by its X series models, as well as the Lite version Magic7 and 400 series. It is worth noting that Central America has become Honor's core base, surpassing Mexico in the first half of 2025 to become its largest market in the region.
Prez added, "Although the Latin American smartphone market achieved only weak growth in the second quarter of 2025, the performance of each country's market differs significantly. Brazil, the largest market in the region, saw a 3% year-on-year decline, as demand driven by intense competition in recent years has reached a certain saturation point. Mexico saw a 10% year-on-year decline in shipments due to weak demand, with all major manufacturers experiencing declines. Meanwhile, this quarter's growth mainly came from Central America, Colombia, and Argentina, all of which achieved strong double-digit growth. Colombia and Argentina, after experiencing nearly two years of social, economic, and political adjustments, are showing clear signs of recovery.
Prez commented, "Entry-level models largely drove the growth of the Latin American market in the second quarter of 2025, but smartphone manufacturers need to be cautious as overreliance on this segment may not be sustainable in the long term. With concerns about the risk of tariffs in the US and continued macroeconomic uncertainty, and the vulnerability of entry-level demand, manufacturers' long-term competitiveness will depend on diversified operational models, not only focusing on high-end products but expanding into a broader ecosystem of smart connected devices. At the same time, a comprehensive channel coverage strategy is crucial for achieving scalability and enhancing brand trust."
