Hyundai builds cars for Waymo: Betting on robotaxis to offset the impact of slowing EV demand.

Zhitong Finance APP has learned that Hyundai Motor is viewing autonomous taxi operators as an important new source of demand for its electric vehicles, and plans to manufacture "tens of thousands" of Ioniq 5 Robotaxis for Alphabet(GOOGL.US)-owned Waymo. Hyundai Motor CEO Jos Muoz disclosed this production target last Thursday at an event held in San Jose, California. Hyundai and Waymo announced their partnership in 2024, but had never previously revealed the expected vehicle volume.
