White House chief economic advisor Hassett said he believed that the eventual fall in oil prices would create room for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates. Hassett stated that the White House expects that once an agreement is reached with Iran, energy prices will fall; and when energy prices fall, the Federal Reserve will have room to lower interest rates. He believes that the current acceleration in inflation is mainly driven by energy prices; once energy prices fall, the United States may even experience negative inflation.
