Chen Jin'ing meets with Zhang Ronggong, Vice Chairman of the Kuomintang.
Chen Jinhuang, Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, met with a delegation headed by Zhang Ronggong, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Nationalist Party, today.
On behalf of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Chen Jinhuang welcomed the visit of Zhang Ronggong and his delegation. He mentioned that recently, General Secretary Xi Jinping called to congratulate Zheng Liwen on her election as Chairman of the Chinese Nationalist Party, emphasizing the importance of both parties adhering to the "1992 Consensus" and opposing "Taiwan independence" as a common political foundation. This would help promote cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, and work towards maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, as well as improving the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the strait. Shanghai is one of the most active regions for cross-strait cooperation and exchanges, with a large concentration of Taiwanese residents and businesses, and frequent interactions between Taiwanese compatriots and the mainland. Shanghai is willing to play an active role in promoting peaceful development of cross-strait relations, continuing to strengthen exchanges, deepen economic and trade cooperation, and better serve Taiwanese businesses investing and operating in Shanghai, as well as Taiwanese compatriots seeking employment and entrepreneurship. More Taiwanese compatriots, especially young people, are welcomed to visit Shanghai, experience the city first-hand, increase understanding, enhance friendship, and strengthen emotional ties, in order to jointly work towards national rejuvenation and create a better future.
Zhang Ronggong expressed his emotional connection to Shanghai, a city that plays a unique role in the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and is highly attractive to Taiwanese compatriots. Many Taiwanese compatriots choose to work, study, live, and travel in Shanghai, which is a symbolic manifestation of the integration and development across the strait. Both sides of the strait are Chinese people deeply influenced by Chinese culture. He expressed his readiness to further deepen cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, encourage more young Taiwanese to come to Shanghai for exchanges, support Taiwanese businesses in Shanghai for further development, and continuously improve the well-being of people on both sides of the strait.
Shanghai municipal leaders Chen Tong and Huayuan also participated in the meeting.
