On the 12th local time, the United States Mint stopped producing the smallest denomination coin - the one cent coin, in order to save costs. On February 10th local time, US President Trump stated that due to rising costs, he had instructed the Treasury Department to stop minting new one cent coins. Trump stated that the actual cost of producing a one cent coin in the United States exceeds 2 cents, which he deemed "too wasteful."
