The first ultra-large diameter shield tunnel in Guangzhou, Haizhu Bay Tunnel, has been completed and opened to traffic.

On November 12th, the first large-diameter shield tunnel in Guangzhou, the Haizhu Bay Tunnel, was officially completed and opened to traffic. The tunnel is 4.35 kilometers long with six lanes in each direction. Two 15.07-meter large-diameter shield tunneling machines were used in the construction of the tunnel, utilizing multiple innovative technologies to overcome difficult geological conditions in the Pearl River Delta region. The tunnel successfully passed through multiple waterways in the Pearl River system, achieving the first domestic example of large-scale shield tunneling with precise millimeter-level settlement control on pile groups.
