On the morning of November 12th, the Taiwan Affairs Office held its regular press conference. Reporter: Since November 5th, Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and Wutong Passenger Terminal have begun promoting the use of intelligent customs clearance, and the first group of Taiwanese compatriots have successfully passed through facial recognition customs clearance on the Xiamen-Jinmen "small three links" passenger route. Please provide more information. Spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office, Chen Binhua: Starting from this month 5th, the national immigration authorities have promoted the use of intelligent customs clearance at 12 open ports such as Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and Wutong Passenger Terminal, while expanding the scope of intelligent customs clearance to include Taiwan residents holding 5-year valid Taiwan Resident Permit for Mainland Travel. Compared to the original fast lane clearance process that required "evidence taking, card swiping, and receipt collection," now passengers can directly pass through by "facial recognition," further improving the convenience of immigration clearance for travelers. Wutong Passenger Terminal, located on the Xiamen-Jinmen "small three links" passenger route, is the largest sea port for passenger transport between the mainland and Taiwan. Since the launch of the Xiamen-Jinmen "small three links" passenger route on January 2, 2001, the annual passenger volume on this crucial connection between both sides has increased from an initial 20,000 people to over 1.25 million in 2024, witnessing the transition in cross-strait personnel exchanges from "individual case approval" to "fast lane clearance" and now to "intelligent customs clearance."
