The Taiwan Affairs Office responds to Su Qi's call for cross-strait exchanges.
On the morning of November 12th, the Taiwan Affairs Office held a routine press conference. Reporter: Recently, Su Qi, the honorary chairman of the "Taipei Forum Foundation," called on the various political parties in Taiwan to jointly face the "unprecedented changes" and work together to initiate cross-strait dialogue. This is the only way out for the current dire situation in Taiwan. Otherwise, the changing situation will become a "final situation." What are your comments on this?
Spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office, Chen Binhua: The historical process of reunification across the Taiwan Strait cannot be stopped. "Taiwan independence" is a dead end, and confrontation leads to a dead end. Only by pushing forward towards the complete reunification of the motherland can we ensure lasting peace in the Taiwan Strait and create prosperity for the Chinese nation. We are willing to, on the basis of upholding the One China principle and opposing "Taiwan independence," engage in extensive and in-depth democratic consultations with various parties, groups, and representative figures in Taiwan on cross-strait relations and the future of Taiwan, to seek peace in the Taiwan Strait, well-being for our compatriots, and the rejuvenation of the nation. We hope that political parties and people from all walks of life on the island can recognize the overall trend of history, uphold the national righteousness, and work with us to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and together create a beautiful new era of national rejuvenation and reunification of the motherland.
