Sony Corporation has significantly reduced the price of its PlayStation 5 in Japan and launched a new model that can only be used in Japan. This move is inspired by the strategy adopted by Nintendo for the Switch 2. Sony, based in Tokyo, announced through a livestream on Wednesday that the regional limited edition of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is priced at 55,000 yen. This price is nearly one-fourth lower than the previous 72,980 yen and much lower than the price of 499 dollars in the American market. The product will be available for pre-order starting on Thursday and will officially be released on November 21st. Hideaki Nishino, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said during the online event announcing the product, "We hope many players in Japan can enjoy the PlayStation 5 and its rich game lineup." Nintendo has also implemented a similar strategy, introducing a lower-priced, Japan-exclusive version of the new Switch 2 console with a Japanese interface. This version was released alongside the international version, leading to record-breaking sales in the Japanese market for this industry.
