CXMT has begun mass production of its G5 memory technology, boosting DRAM density and advancing China’s position in the global semiconductor market.

Chinese memory semiconductor manufacturer Changxin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has announced the mass production of a new-generation technology platform, marking another step in its effort to narrow the technological gap with leading global memory chip producers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. The company said its fifth-generation platform, known as G5, delivers substantial improvements in storage density, production efficiency, energy consumption and cost management.

According to CXMT, the G5 platform increases the number of memory dies that can be produced from a single wafer by at least 50 per cent compared with the preceding generation. The improvement is intended to strengthen manufacturing efficiency while maintaining more favorable power consumption and production costs. CXMT described the development as a significant advancement in its memory manufacturing capabilities.

The company also reported progress in process technology. While major international DRAM manufacturers, including Samsung and SK Hynix, are working with processes around the 10-nanometre class, CXMT said its latest platform has reached 11.95nm through a quadruple-exposure manufacturing technique. The company presented this achievement as bringing its production capabilities closer to those used by leading memory manufacturers worldwide.

As part of the announcement, CXMT introduced two LPDDR5X products produced using the G5 platform. These dynamic random-access memory chips are designed for mobile devices and other power-sensitive electronics. Each product offers a capacity of 24 gigabits, representing a 50 per cent increase over comparable products from the company's previous generation. CXMT said the chips are intended for mid-range and high-end smartphones as well as portable consumer electronics.

The announcement was made during the World Manufacturing Convention in Hefei, the capital of Anhui province and CXMT's home city. The development comes as the Chinese company expands its relationships with domestic smartphone manufacturers. CXMT memory has increasingly appeared in higher-end Chinese devices as local smartphone brands seek to strengthen their positions in the premium segment.

Among the devices using CXMT's LPDDR5X memory is Nubia's NaviX Ultra, a flagship smartphone backed by ZTE. Xiaomi and Transsion, which has a particularly strong presence in emerging markets, are also customers for CXMT's LPDDR5X products. The growing adoption of its memory chips by major Chinese handset manufacturers provides the company with a larger domestic market for its expanding production capacity.

CXMT's progress follows the company's entry into the public market in July, when its initial public offering attracted considerable attention and made it China's most valuable listed technology company at the time. The company had already begun manufacturing LPDDR5X memory based on its previous-generation platform in May 2025.

Market data also indicates that CXMT has been increasing its presence in the global DRAM industry. According to TrendForce data released in early September, the company's share of worldwide DRAM revenue climbed to 9.5 per cent in the second quarter, up from 7.6 per cent in the first quarter. Samsung remained the largest supplier with 39.4 per cent of global revenue, while SK Hynix accounted for 24.9 per cent and Micron Technology held 23.3 per cent.

CXMT's latest manufacturing platform therefore represents both a technological development and an expansion of its role in the competitive global memory industry. Continued improvements in process technology, production efficiency and product capacity could allow the company to further increase its presence in domestic and international markets.
